My Tenant

The poet who rents a loft behind my eyes
and shows up now and then unannounced
at one pole or the other
wanting confirmation of his genius
or his pathetic inconsequence
is, all and all, not a bad bloke,
and I could do worse for tenants,
especially in a college town.
