Mon Dieu, Les Chiens

The two sweet dogs that live downstairs
know me as well as they know their noses.
Am I not then entitled to a modicum
of levelheaded non-barking from them
as I return from my annual physical,
not having been scolded for the extra pound
and having somehow sidestepped
even one booster shot?
Mon Dieu, les chiens.
Mon Dieu.

I’ve retired after a career teaching law. I divide my time now between Athens, Georgia, in the States and the south coast of Ireland.
